New Options for Criminal Searches, Verifications and Self-Payment - June 03, 2014
2014 has been an exciting year so far for SterlingBackcheck and we’re just getting started! We have several important new products that may benefit your screening program, including a new option to include employment and educations histories in your criminal searches, a faster way to verify employment and the ability to allow contractors to pay for their own background checks.
Expand Your Criminal Records Search with Education and Employment History
For the most complete view of your candidate, you can now include searches of county criminal records based on employment and education history. These additional searches expand your search beyond the SSN trace to identify additional counties where possible criminal activity may have occurred. They complement the Complete Criminal Locator search, which runs county criminal background checks based on Name, Social Security Number, and other criminal locator databases.
Best Practice: Typically, the most effective search when vetting an applicant begins at the county level. That’s why we now offer even more search options that help fill any and all missing gaps so that you can rest assured that our criminal background checks cover all bases. To add the "County Criminal Record Off Employment" and "County Criminal Record Off Education" products to your screening package, please contact your account manager or a sales representative.
Faster, More Complete Verification Process
Our new E-verifications technology is an automated process for verifying prior employment as well as personal and professional references via applicant-provided email addresses. The benefits for employers include significant decrease in verification turnaround time, improved quality and higher success rates.

Flexible Applicant Payment Option
You can now share payment responsibility between you and your applicants when you order a background screen via Workforce Direct, the cloud-based applicant portal for Screening Direct. In those states that allow cost sharing for background screening, you can set the contribution level as a percentage (i.e., up to 99% for the applicant) or as a fixed amount (i.e., up to $20). You can also decide who will pay for any jurisdiction access fees.
Who Could Use the New Flexible Applicant Payment Option?
The option to allow applicants to pay some or all of a background screen has been much requested by our clients – especially organizations in the non-profit sector, companies with contractors or those hiring independent consultants.
