Sterling Talent Solutions’ Charles Cafaro Presented U.S. Army Reserve Patriot Award
Charles Cafaro, Assistant Vice President National Sales at Sterling Talent Solutions, was recently presented with the Patriotic Employer Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Department (ESGR). Charles was nominated for the awards by Kyle Lobaugh, Sr. National Sales Executive and a member of the US Army Reserves. While he was unaware that the award was being presented to him, receiving the award was a very high honor and something he had never experienced in his 30+ year career.
Kyle’s Nominating Story
Kyle Lobaugh transitioned from active duty to the Reserves serving in the HHC 244th Aviation Brigade at Fort Dix, New Jersey. At the same time, he was transitioning to Reserve duty Kyle was also starting his sales job at Sterling Talent Solutions. In June of last year, Kyle was required to be in military training for two weeks, which would take him away from his “always on duty” corporate sales position. Kyle explained this situation in his nomination submission to the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). He expressed his concern to Charles Cafaro, his director and direct supervisor, about managing his business while he was out, but shared that Charles reassured Kyle saying, “The last thing you should worry about is work while you’re in training. Your only focus should be the military. I’ll handle everything in your absence.” Kyle continued, “During my two weeks out of the office, Charles continued to tirelessly work on all of my accounts. He fielded every call, e-mail and meeting during that time. As a direct result of his assistance, I was able to successfully close two of my biggest deals this year.” Kyle has missed over a month of time due to his Army Reserves training in the past year, but said, “Despite this being my first year here, everyone at Sterling has been nothing but supporting in ensuring my success within the company, as well as the Reserves.”
Charles Cafaro has over 30 years of business experience and has been with Sterling Talent Solutions for over 13 years. He has had many roles from Recruiter to HR Executive to his current position of Assistant Vice President of National Sales. Charles has helped build the sales team over his tenure at Sterling and is very proud of how much they have grown as well as what they have accomplished. Every member of the team is happy to pitch in and help each other whenever they can. Kyle’s situation proves the quality and dedication of the sales team.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve-Patriot Award
The ESGR, a Department of Defense program founded in 1972, promotes a “culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service members of the National Guard and Reserve of the United States.” The ESGR grants a series of employer awards to recognize employers who support their Guard and Reserve employees. An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve may nominate individual supervisors and bosses for this distinction. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off before and after deployment, caring for family members and granting leaves of absence if needed. Patriot Awards are awarded to individual supervisors, not to an entire staff or organization as a whole.
Junior Military Officer Transition
Kyle Lobaugh was a participant in the Cameron-Brook JMO program and was hired by Sterling Talent Solutions in January 2016 after an extensive interview process. Sterling Talent Solutions “attended the hiring conference with the goal of helping to transition veterans as well as improve leadership culture within the company.”
A Junior Military Officer (JMO) program recruits military officers and represents them to corporate America. The program transitions service personnel from the military to future leadership roles in corporate America. Companies such as GE, P&G;, JP Morgan, Accenture, Deloitte, Campbell’s and thousands of others are participating in JMO programs to balance their hiring and leadership strategies. Sterling was introduced to the JMO recruiting program over a year ago. JMO employees are a complement to the highly experienced business team at Sterling and allow the company the opportunity to support the military and help leaders transition into a meaningful civilian career. The program has an Intensive interview process with many stages of interviews requiring travel for both the hiring team from Sterling and the veterans. Sterling hired two JMO’s from the Cameron-Brook JMO process, who both happen to be on Charles’s Cafaro’s team: Kyle Lobaugh and Jon Fleming.
