REACHing for New Heights

In 2014, Sterling Talent Solutions launched a global CSR program, REACH (Realize, Empathize, Act, Connect, Help). This mission of the program is to enable employees to contribute at both the global and the local levels with charitable programs focused on protecting children and saving the environment. The goal of the US REACH committee is to align with the global mission to create opportunities in order to positively impact their communities. Each month, Sterling Talent Solutions employees devote their time and talent to support community outreach events.

The REACH program hands out two awards to offices and one contributor who has made an impact with their REACH programs each year. The REACH Impact Award is awarded to one of the 20 global offices that have fundraising campaigns that are unique, effective, has a large amount of employee participation and impacts Sterling’s employer branding. The REACH Contributor of the Year Award is for the one person who embodies and contributes to the office’s REACH programs.

Sterling’s Cleveland Office is REACHing New Heights

The Kinda Fun committee runs the REACH program in the Cleveland Sterling office. The committee is the merger of two separate committees: The Sterling Kind committee that did office fund raisers and charity events and the Sterling Fun committee that planned events for the office.

To date, the Cleveland office has helped eight different local charities with bake sales, dress down day fund raisers and more. Each organization that has been helped throughout the year by the REACH campaign must be a legitimate non-profit organization. Employees and committee members make suggestions for which organizations to support. The committee also plans blood drives, beach or park clean-ups and other community events.

Kristen Kucharski, Human Resources Generalist at the Cleveland office, shared her excitement for the REACH events, “I moved to Ohio just about a year ago. Being involved with the REACH committee has helped me immerse myself in the community and get to know the wonderful people and organizations that Cleveland has to offer.”

  • LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland
  • Leukemia Lymphoma Society
  • Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School Kick it for Children’s Cancer
  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
  • Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Walk
  • Cleveland Veterans
  • Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter

The next fund raiser takes place across the US offices for “Back to School” time. Offices raise money and take back to school supplies donations. Each office “adopts” a local school where the supplies will be donated at the beginning of the school year.

Visiting the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter

The most recent fund raising event for the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter has left a lasting impact on many members of the Kinda Fun committee. The Cleveland office donated both money and supplies for the shelter. The money that was donated went towards veterinarian bills for “Chief,” a rescued dog with two broken legs, via the Best Friends Medical Relief Fund and the supplies went directly for everyday use at the shelter. As you can see by the video, Chief was an instant hit with the members of the Kinda Fun Committee. If they could have, most team members would have brought home a dog from the shelter.

Stephen Feliciano, Verifications Trainer, and long-time Kinda Fun Committee member shared, “Working with the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter was an amazing experience. We got to see firsthand that the supplies and money that we’ve donated will help make a real difference for these dogs that need a good home.”

The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is a temporary home for dogs that are found on the streets by the county dog wardens. Dogs are held for 72 hours for the owner to claim them. Dog owners must provide proof of ownership when picking up their pets at the shelter. After the holding period, unclaimed dogs may be available for adoption. Since 2002, over 9,600 homeless dogs and puppies have been adopted from the shelter.

The animal shelter relies on volunteers and donations both monetary and supplies. Volunteers receive a stringent orientation and training program. Volunteers can be walking buddies, groom mates, promote events, fundraising or even just helping out in the office.

The communities where Sterling Talent Solutions operates are made better through the special talents and generosity of our employees. The Cleveland Sterling team is very proud to be able to raise funds to help nonprofit organizations in the Cleveland area and is looking forward to more events throughout the rest of the year.
